Julie-Anne creates functional stoneware in small series as well as one of a kind decorative art work. Navigating between traditional and contemporary styles, her creations are distinguished by their organic, primitive character. The roughness of the raw clay, combined with subtle surface decors, contribute to this unique aspect. Translating a circular and holistic thinking, her work combines aestheticism and balance with nature in all its forms.
Her artistic approach is intimately linked to a quest for identity and the desire to reclaim the cultural heritage inherited from her Huron-Wendat ancestors, “the Island People”. Inspired by pictograms and petroglyphs, she also draws from cave art to illustrate sacred and timeless space.
