Inspirations & Philosophy Zemanek Mediterranean origins transpire in her style. Since a child, she is fascinated by the colorful richness of Byzantine icons, decorative arabesques, the luxuriance of Middle Eastern printed fabrics and the colors of Persian carpets. Through her works, she seeks to bridge the gap between the decorative/oriental sense and the importance of realistic Western qualities. Zemanek quest is an aesthetic renewal of classical painting by the use of bold and dramatic hues. Her art collections draw inspiration from nature, and the tranquil beauty of the woods, lake and ocean. Through her art, she wishes to transport viewers to a world where they can witness the wonders of nature and feel a sense of awe and wonder for the natural world that surrounds us.
Style & Technique
“I cannot refrain from a totally abstract art that clings to nothing, yet pure realism bores me. My quest is to create an emotion of awe and wonder by incorporating whimsical or surreal elements, such as fantastical backgrounds or unexpected juxtapositions of color.”
While each artwork showcases the intricate details and subtle textures found in nature, she strives to evoke a sense of enchantment. Alicia Zemanek art is a feast for the eye; where color arouse deep and suggestive emotions. Her atistic signature lies in the use of classical old venetian techniques to create remarkable hues and jewel-like effects in a contemporary artwork. While form is important, Zemanek’s signature is color. It is therefore through color that her paintings are organized with a concern to subject her colors to simultaneous contrasts through the use of Chiaroscuro and flochetage. Strokes of complementary and closely related colours are combined in the eye to heighten hue. Glazing techniques are used to intensify light, depth, transparency, and brilliance of colors.
