Michel Bornais is a self-taught sculptor, passionate about stones. His many walks in the granite quarries of Stanstead and around the processing companies gives him material to make shapes and images. Ideas are born of themselves largely inspired by early arts, tribal art, archeology, ancient history and nature. Granite imposes itself with force and voluptuousness in his sources of inspiration.

All his works are worked in direct size. Utilitarian or decorative: mortars and pestles, miniature gardens, dishes for bonsai, saucers, statues of all shapes and sizes are sometimes enhanced with polished stones, vegetable elements, metal or wood. In 2013, he built a 22 foot exterior wall, entirely of cut stones placed one by one, and into which he introduced metal and wood.
